The International Energy Agency (IEA) stated: global coal demand will rise 1.4 percent this year, surpassing a high record of 8.5 billion tonnes for the first time.
While coal demand in the United States and the European Union has fallen by 20 percent this year, coal use remains very strong in emerging economies, demand for coal is up 8 percent in India in 2023 and 8 percent in China.
This is the second consecutive year with a global high record coal demand ( after 2022 ) that was also a record for using the coal.
The agency predicts coal consumption will fall 2.3% by 2026 compared to this year’s record levels, as forecasts indicates the major expansion of renewable energy sources in the next three years.
China’s coal demand is expected to fall next year and increase by 2026, and global demand will fall by 2026, “but China will be The Most Influential,” the IEA pointed out.
