In the Turkish scrap import market, buyers are trying to hold the prices lower, but sellers are also resisting.
While the previous round of purchases in December supported a growth in scrap prices, the market is waiting for more buyers to enter the market for February shipments. The latest deal for Venezuela’s 20-80 heavy scrap was at $410 per ton of Turkish CFR, equivalent to $413 to $415 per ton CFR for US 20-80 scrap.
Apparently scrap buyers in Turkey are trying to push the biding price to the range of $400 or less, while offer prices range from $415 to $420 per ton CFR. The average market price is now up 50 cents from Friday’s high, at $413 a ton of CFR.
