Localization and empowerment of iron and steel industry equipment / prerequisite for development

The Fifth National Iranian Steel Festival and Exhibition with the approach of localization and empowerment of iron and steel industry equipment is being held from 09 to 11 January at Milad Tower Exhibition in Tehran.

This specialized gathering which has a definite and significant goal for industrialists is a precious and valuable opportunity to set up& establish a chain of connection between major steel companies and manufacturers and knowledge-based companies in order to take necessary steps toward progress and self-sufficiency by recognizing the needs of the country’s steel market from the ability of domestic producers and subsequently  to localize the knowledge and equipment needed for the steel industry.

Localization as a social responsibility

In fact localization is a social responsibility manifested in the steel industry and mining sector.

 Localization means being able to manufacture parts, achieving technology and becoming famous in  production of equipment and technical knowledge. The country’s steel industry has succeeded in advancing the localization campaign and maximum use of domestic power so that the feedback of localization in the steel chain can be introduced as a model for other industries which due to using domestic power the Currency consumption in the steel industry will be minimized.

Since 2018, when a new round of cruel global arrogance sanctions against the people of our country began, the country’s steel industry started to reduce imports dependence and use domestic capacities. Fortunately, it can now be noticed that a large part of the everyday needs of steelmakers are being supplied from the domestic market, and the steel industry has become a model in the localization of equipment and parts of the country.

Strategic Role of National Iranian Steel Company

National Iranian Steel Company, as the sole holding company specialized in guiding and leading the steel chain of the country, based on the provisions of “Steel Master Plan”, with understanding the sensitive conditions for this industry started to create production, research and localization management to meet the needs of this industry and especially the seven provincial steel projects in coordination with IMIDRO.

In this regard, the company, by identifying 400 domestic companies and producers and signing contract with them, by the end of 1401 (Iranian calendar) with the construction of 383 pieces and equipping its subsidiary units, managed to  38 million dollars  foreign exchange savings due to localization and during the 9th month of 1402 by producing 73 pieces and equipment managed to $ 3 million  foreign exchange savings. Also, according to the latest statistics of IMIDRO, more than 27,000 parts and equipment required by the steel industry were confirmed and the identification of 1,400 domestic manufacturers have all been recorded on Karlink.
