Iron ore imports to Turkey are increasing

Turkey’s iron ore imports increased by 35 percent annually in the first three months of this year to 2.69 million tons, due to the increase in Turkish steel production during this period.150 thousand tons of it was pellets, most of which were imported from Russia and the United States.‎

‎Turkey’s iron ore imports from Brazil reached 1.46 million tonnes in the first quarter, up 3.8 percent from a year earlier, with imports from Ukraine reaching 461,200 tonnes during that period compared to just 30,000 tonnes last year.‎

‎Turkey also imported 344,000 tons of iron ore from South Africa in the first quarter of the year, which was zero last year. Other iron ore suppliers were Russia with 175,000 tonnes, Canada with 78,000 tons, Libya with 34,000 tons and the United States with 33,000 tonnes.‎
