The head of the Iranian Steel Producers Association at the mentioned press conference stated:
“Despite the prominent and vital role of the steel industry in solving the country’s economic challenges, the shortage of various types of energy is sometimes attributed to this industry without relying on accurate and documented statistics, a claim that is sometimes heard even from some university professors and economists.”
Bahram Sobhani stated: The steel industry consumes 40 million cubic meters of gas and the daily electricity consumption is below 6000 megawatts. The steel industry provides 31% of the country’s gas budget while having a 5% share of the country’s gas consumption. He continued: “This is while the steel industry has the largest share in the creation of employment and foreign exchange in the country.”
