Global steel production in September decreased by 1.6% y/y

Steel production in 70 producing countries amounted to 141.8 million tons in the month

Global steel production in September 2025 decreased by 1.6% compared to the same month in 2024 to 141.8 million tons. The figure decreased by 2.4% compared to the previous month. This is evidenced by the global ranking of steel-producing countries (70) by the World Steel Association.

Total steel production in the CIS+Ukraine decreased by 5.3% y/y and 7.5% m/m – to 6.2 million tons over the month, while in Ukraine it increased by 0.2% y/y and fell by 5.9% m/m – to 611 thousand tons.

The top ten steel-producing countries in September, according to World Steel, were:

China – 73.5 million tons (-4.6% yoy);

India – 13.6 million tons (+13.2%);

USA – 6.9 million tons (+6.7%);

Japan – 6.4 million tons (-3.7%);

Russia – 5.2 million tons (-3.8%);

South Korea – 5.0 million tons (-2.4%);

Turkey – 3.2 million tons (+3.3%);

Germany – 3.0 million tons (-0.6%).

Brazil – 2.8 million tons (-3.2%);

Iran – 2.3 million tons (+6%).
