Considering the balanced prices and proper access to the energy resources, so far being existed, investment in heat recovery sector of the country has been completely neglected ,therefore in the country’s industrial sector, a significant amount of renewable thermal energy is being wasted annually.
The country’s steel industry has not been excluded from this issue, and despite valuable studies conducted by National Iranian Steel Company and its subsidiaries over the years, due to the lack of economic feasibility, all these projects remained in the study phase.
Due to the increasing costs of supplying electricity from the grid as well as the issues related to the negative balance of electricity and gas production in the country, as well as a joint memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Energy and Industry, Mine & Trade on the investment of industries in the field of power plants, it seems like a good time for industries to revisit their review on Recovery of Heat Losses and convert it to electricity.
Considering the development of new technologies, the investment costs in this area in comparison to the past have been moderated greatly, while the efficiency of heat recovery systems has greatly increased. One of these relatively new technologies in heat recovery is the ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle ) method, which has been developed globally on a commercial scale.
