Nippon Steel Corporation (Nippon Steel), Nippon Steel Trading Corporation (Nippon Steel Trading) and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy K.K. (Siemens Gamesa) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 29th, 2024 to jointly study promoting NSCarbolex™ Neutral, a green steel* supplied by Nippon Steel that applies mass balance approach for wind farm turbine towers in Japanese wind farm projects.
Incremental reductions of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions achieved through projects with additionality implemented by steel manufacturing companies is pooled in the organization, and thereafter steel products are supplied with certificates, in accordance with the guideline established by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF). Customers who purchase green steels that applies mass balance approach can report the reduction from GHG protocol Scope 3 emissions.
Nippon Steel set forth the Nippon Steel Carbon Neutral Vision 2050 and work on reducing CO2 emissions as the most important management issue.
NSCarbolex Neutral, launched in the first half of fiscal 2023, is a steel product to which the actual reduction GHG emissions that Nippon Steel has reduced through Nippon Steel’s initiative by applying mass balance approach is attributed, thereby contributing the reduction of GHG emissions in the society towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
We continue to contribute to the development of renewable energy by stably supplying high quality steel products to wind farm industry and the realization of a carbon neutral society through supplying NSCarbolex Neutral.
