Southeast Asian Steel Association expresses concern over China’s overcapacity

The Southeast Asian Steel Association (SEAISI) warned that “increased imports” from China would be ignored by Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).‎

‎In early May, SEAISI announced that there had been no tangible progress or action by the Malaysian government on the growth of China’s steel production capacity within the country and other neighboring countries, despite comprehensive reviews and a report submitted to the MITI Ministry’s Independent Steel Committee.‎

‎According to the association, the Federation of Steel and Iron Industries of Malaysia (MISIF) has called on the government to take “urgent, bold and decisive measures” in the face of growing import threats, unfair trade practices and increasing operational pressures.‎
