According to the Secretary of the Iranian Steel Producers Association, as more than 70% of the country’s steel production is done through sponge iron, Iran should receive the global green steel award, quoted by chilan.

Seyed Rasoul Khalife Soltani, Secretary of the Iranian Steel Producers Association, stated: “Iran’s steel industry has an absolute technological advantage up to the ironmaking stage. Our country is the largest producer of sponge iron in the world, and more than 70% of the country’s steel production is supplied through sponge iron. It should be noted that 1.2 tons of carbon dioxide are produced for every ton of steel produced via sponge iron, production via blast furnace produces 2.5 tons of carbon dioxide for every ton of steel. Therefore, Iran’s steel industry should receive the global green steel award.”
