Analytical observation of the DRI (Direct Reduced Iron) and briquette market in August:

Severe competition in Sponge Iron market / Competition and collaboration in Sponge Iron market / IMIDRO and its subsidiaries at the top, “FASBA” reached second place!

In August 2025, Iran’s sponge iron market, with 855,000 tons of product supplied by large and medium-sized companies, witnessed both competitive activity and concentrated supply. Data review indicates that more than half of the trades were controlled by a few major firms, while the other players—though holding smaller shares—collectively played an important role in balancing the market.

Statistical-analytical monitoring indicates that IMIDRO, through specialized and expert oversight of the National Iranian Steel Company in Ghaenat and Miyaneh steel complexes, Saba Steel of the Persian Gulf, and Ghadir Iranian Iron and Steel, accounted for about 45 percent of all sponge iron and briquette trades in August.

1️⃣ IMIDRO and National Iranian Steel Company (Ghaenat & Mianeh Steel) top of the table by supplying 105,000 tons of sponge iron.

2️⃣ In second place, Saba steel Persian Gulf (#Fasba) recording performance close to IMIDRO with sales of 101,000 tons. The slight gap between this company and the leader has created a sustainable competition among the main players in the market, so that a change in position between them in the coming months is not unexpected.

3️⃣ Following these two, Ghadir Iranian Iron and Steel (#Fghadir) secured an independent position in the market by supplying 90,100 tons. Although this company is about 10 to 15 thousand tons behind the first two companies, it maintains a secure third place compared to other competitors by a significant margin.

In fourth place jointly, Ghadir Neyriz Steel with 78,800 tons and Gol-E-gohar Iron and Steel Development with 73,000 tons are in the table. Although these companies were not as impactful in August as the top three companies, they play an important role in strengthening supply and preventing a gap in the market.

In the middle of the table, Khuzestan Steel (#Fakhuz) is ranked with 50,000 tons. This company, which is considered one of the experienced&old players in the country’s steel industry, still plays a complementary role in meeting domestic demand. Following that, Pars Steel Sabzevar (#FSabzevar) with 41,200 tons and Jahan Steel Sirjan (#FJahan) with 40,300 tons are positioned relatively close to each other and maintained a balanced share in the market.
