According to the public relations of National Iranian Steel Company, during the Steel Price International Conference on Advanced Steels, Mohammad-Masoud Samiei Nejad, IMIDRO’s Chairman of the Executive Boards of Directors emphasized the need for the country’s steel industry to move towards the production of advanced, high-strength, and high value-added steels in order to maintain and strengthen competitiveness in regional markets.
Samiei Nejad, referring to the rapid developments in the steel industry globally, identified three main trends as determining the future of this industry: the transition to low-carbon steels, the increasing demand for advanced steels, and the acceleration of process digitalization.
He continued: strategic industries such as military, aerospace, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence-based technologies, and 3D printing all require special and alloy steels, and the future of the steel industry is unimaginable without technological innovation and upgrading the product portfolio. He stated “More than 45 percent of the global steel market growth is due to demand from the automotive and construction industries, and about 48 percent of infrastructure projects are based on the need for alloy and advanced steels.” He also emphasized that the development of 3D printing and the design of new alloys have created an increasing dependence on higher-strength, lower-waste stainless steels.
Samiei nejad described Iran’s steel industry as a “decisive point” and identified three strategic elements: 1) securing stable energy through long-term, reliable contracts; 2) modernizing technology and developing production of advanced and alloy steels; 3) diversifying exports and entering high value‑added markets to strengthen foreign exchange earnings and elevate Iran’s position on the global stage.
